While most Americans only celebrate the last day of Carnaval - Fat Tuesday - Brazilians have been celebrating its full three days and nights for over 400 years!
Carnaval starts this year on Saturday, February 9th, and z'Bumba has prepared the most explosive party in Portland: in addition to their accordion-soaked Brazilian dance music, z*Bumba is also joined by the thunderous maracaBOOM!, as well as Samba Já, Eugene's wild, twenty-piece Brazilian percussion orchestra.
A royal court creates mood amidst mayhem, waving regally as couples dance the saucy two-step known as Forró (fo-HOh.) Drums rumble in primordial rites as dancers revel ecstatically through a cacophonous tunnel of pure rhythm, freeing themselves not only from the grip of a Portland winter, but also the confines of their very identities.
