Portland Show Guide

[ 115 NW 5th Ave. ]

Music in the Schools (MITS) attempts to give teenagers opportunities in the music industry, not only as students and performers, but also regarding the business aspect. The committee holds benefit concerts to raise money for high school music programs, giving people the ability to take free music classes they would not otherwise be able to access. In order to allow high school musicians to display their talent, MITS holds monthly showcases and an annual battle of the bands. The showcases feature three or four teenage bands and one established local adult act to give high schoolers the opportunity to perform at a professional venue for a paying audience.
